          beach on a barrier island located 3 miles from the Texas shoreline.

Since the mid-1960s when Ila first began her crusade to save sea turtles, much progress has been made and today awareness programs span the entire globe. However, there is still a long way to go before any of the sea turtle species can be removed from the Endangered Species List.
